1.What is the bomb? : Any short of the container filled with explosive or incendiary material or gas to set off by impact or sparking devise or chemical action. It may be fired by a gun, dropped by aircraft thrown by hand or surreptitiously planned. The Huge size of bomb called mass destruction weapon.
84grams explosive is able to kill a human being and 42 grams is capable of serious injury.
2. What is I.E.D? IED stand for the Improvised explosive device. It is a device designed with an unlawful intention of a terrorist group or anti-social elements. The IED could be in any shape or size. It may be operated electrically or mechanically and designed to explode while handling or by use of delay mechanism. The effect may be vary according to type and quantity of explosive material used in it.
3.What is explosive? Explosive is a chemical compound or mixture which upon the application of heat or shock will undergo rapid self-propagating decomposition. These decompositions result from a sudden increase of temperature, gasses and pressure with a loud noise that thrust out equally in all direction.
4.What is low explosive? It is the chemical substance which when provided with spark or impact will undergo very rapid deflagration and produce a large quantity of gas, light and smoke with a loud noise.
The rapid deflagration reaching sonic speed (up to 330 meters/sec) is called low explosive. They are highly sensitive in nature.
Low explosive releases pressure at 1,50,000PSI and temperature almost 3000-degree centigrade.
5.What is high explosive? A chemical compound of stable molecular structure which when given a shock wave of high pressure and high temperature it decomposed very rapidly and release tremendous amounts of energy. The decomposition rate will be above supersonic speed (greater than 330 meters/sec) are called high explosive. Generally, they are insensitive to nature.
High explosive release pressure approx 4,00,000 PSI and temperature above 3000-degree centigrade.
6.What is ammunition? Any kind of explosive filled device which is fired by a conventional weapon is called ammunition.
7.What is grenade? Grenade is a small explosive-filled device. It may be thrown by hand or shot from the rifle used against a human being. The killing area of the grenade is 9 square meters and effective area 32 square meters.
8.What is a mine? An encased explosive designed to destroy enemy personals, vehicles and ships are called mines.
9.What is Missile? A bomb with its own propulsion system is called missile.
10.What is fuze? Fuse is an initiating device for explosive charge or projectile. May function on impact after a short delay after specific time from discharge or when it detects the proximity of its target.
11.What is the fuse? An initiating or explosive devise in a form of a cord consisting of a flexible fabric tube and a core of low or high explosive. Used in blasting and demolition work. A fuse which black powder or low explosive cord is called safety fuse and a fuse with PETN or other high explosive core are called cortex or detonating cord.
The burning rate of safety fuse is 60 cms/minute and filling rate is 10 grams per meter and blasting rate of cordtext is 8400 meters per second filling rate is 5 gm to 6 gms per meters and explosive-filled in detonator is at 4000 PSI.
12.What is detonator/blasting cap? A small explosive device used to trigger the main charge of high explosive being set off by a lighted fuse or more commonly an electric current.
The effective range of a detonator is 20 meters and total weight is 1 gm including the weight of explosive i.e. 0.9gm filled in it.
13.What is pyrotechnics? The art of firework is called Pyro technique. A Pyro technique substance is self-sustaining energy producing chemical. The effects produced including heat, light, sound, smoke or combination of all these. It does not detonate.
14.What is Burning? It is a process which takes place slowly in the presence of atmospheric oxygen. The rate of burning is 30 feet per minutes. Burning process depends on weather condition
15.What is deflagration? It is a rapid combustion which is accompanied by flame, spark and burning particles due to self-contained oxygen of the burning materials. The reaction zones may be less than the velocity of sound.
16.What is Detonation? Detonation is a chemical reaction that propagates with such rapidity in that the rate of the reaction zone in the material exceeds the velocity of sound. The phenomena independent of oxidation and confinement.
17.What is VOD(Velocity of detonation)?: The rate of propagation in an explosive is called VOD. It measured in meter per second.
18.What is improvised Explosive? A mixture or compound or material which are not specific in the field of explosive but with proper initiation can create an explosion are called an Improvise explosive.
19.What is a booby trap? A cunning mechanism devise (mostly improvised) usually of an explosive of lethal nature designed to trap an unwary and unsuspecting enemy when he disturb an apparently harmless object or perform a presumably safe act.
20.What is RSP(Rendering safe position)? It is a method of neutralizing an IED is called RSP.
21.What is Bomb Disposal? All activities done by the bomb expert from the initial notification of bomb to the final disposal of the hazardous material are called bomb disposal.
